My articles have appeared in Woman's Day, Organic Gardening, National Gardening, Flower and Garden as well as Highlights for Children. I also authored The Gardener's Guide to Growing, Harvesting and Cooking with Recipes (Hastings House, 1984) which I am now updating for online publication.
I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Social Sciences Field Major and earned my Teaching Credential from California State Universiety, San Francisco. My classroom experience covers all levels from pre-school through eighth grade and locales as varied as Northern Alaska and the Navajo Reservation. I've also written educational materials. The ESL reading curriculum I developed won a regional award and a Federal publication grant. I worked with the teachers as they implemented the first phase of the program. Most recently I was director of Education for ten years at a large learning center which tutored hundreds of students at all levels. I conferred with each family and learned much about parents' concerns.
I also studied ecology, botany, and horticulture. Currently I assist my husband in the operation of Gaspars' Nursery where we propagate native plants, graft fruit trees and bring out some new varieties. We specialize in plants that work for the high desert.
We live in California's Antelope Valley where we enjoy hiking, gardening and cooking from the garden. Our daughter grew up here and loves to come back and visit.
